Build a Rental Platform That Protects Lagos Tenants From Exploitation
Lagos tenants pay 1 to 2 years upfront, have no recourse for bad landlords, and face eviction with no notice. Build the platform that changes the power balance.
Closes 6 Sept 2026
The brief
Renting in Lagos is structured almost entirely in the landlord's favour. Tenants pay 1 to 2 years rent in advance, have no legal recourse when landlords fail to maintain properties, and can be evicted with minimal notice. There is no independent dispute mechanism, no rental history system, and no way to check a landlord's reputation.
Your challenge is to design or build a rental platform that materially improves the tenant's position. It should address: upfront payment burden, maintenance accountability, landlord reputation, dispute resolution, and rental history as a credit asset.
Submit a working product, detailed prototype, or comprehensive specification. Address each of the five problem areas above and explain which you are solving first and why.
Judging criteria: 35% tenant protection impact, 30% product quality, 25% feasibility with Lagos landlord culture, 10% prioritisation logic.
