Design a Learning App That Works on Zero Data
Millions of Nigerian students have a smartphone but cannot afford data. Design the learning experience that reaches them anyway.
Closes 6 Sept 2026
The brief
Mobile data in Nigeria costs real money. Many students top up irregularly, run out mid-lesson, or share a phone with three siblings. The assumption that a learning app requires a permanent internet connection locks out the majority of the students who most need it.
Your challenge is to design a learning app — for secondary school students aged 14 to 18 — that delivers a genuinely useful education experience on zero data. Content can be pre-downloaded, delivered via SMS, or use any other approach. The experience must not feel like a compromise.
Submit: a product design document including user flow, content delivery mechanism, what the student can do offline vs online, onboarding flow, and at least 5 detailed screen designs or wireframes.
Judging criteria: 35% offline experience quality, 30% design and usability, 20% content delivery cleverness, 15% feasibility.
