Design a Digital Platform for Resolving Land Disputes in Nigerian Communities

Land disputes tear families and communities apart in Nigeria every year. Design the platform that offers an alternative to the courts.

Closes 6 Sept 2026

The brief

Land disputes in Nigeria are pervasive, expensive, slow, and often violent. The court system takes years and costs more than the land is worth for most ordinary Nigerians. Community elders mediate but have no binding authority. Families fracture. Farming stops. Development stalls. Your challenge is to design a digital (or digital-paper hybrid) platform for community-level land dispute resolution. It must be accessible to people with no legal training, produce decisions that have some practical authority, and work in areas where land is unregistered. Submit: platform design, the resolution process (step by step), who plays what role, what documentation it generates, how decisions are enforced or respected, and a pilot design for one LGA. Judging criteria: 35% accessibility and usability, 30% resolution process quality, 25% enforceability, 10% design.
