Give Nigeria's 3 Million Tailors a Digital Toolkit

Nigeria has more tailors per capita than almost any country on earth. Almost none have access to digital pattern-making, customer management, or order tracking tools. Build the toolkit designed for them.

Closes 10 Sept 2026

The brief

The Nigerian tailoring sector employs over 3 million people and processes hundreds of millions of garments annually. Yet it operates entirely on hand-drawn patterns, oral orders, and handwritten appointment books. A tailor in Aba, who might be one of the most technically skilled garment makers in the world, has no digital tools that match her skill level or her working environment. Your challenge is to design a digital toolkit for Nigerian tailors that includes: digital pattern drafting for African garment styles, customer measurement storage, order tracking, and a simple payment request tool. The toolkit must work on Android phones costing under ₦30,000, function without cloud connectivity during most tasks, and be learnable in one day without formal training. Submit a product design document (max 12 pages) including: the specific garment styles and pattern types covered, the offline-first architecture, the customer data model, how measurements are stored and adjusted, the payment request integration, and a plan to distribute to 10,000 tailors across three trade associations in the first year. Judging criteria: 35% usability for non-technical tailors in market environments, 30% pattern library quality and African garment coverage, 20% offline design, 15% distribution plan through trade associations.
