Modernise Claims Processing for Nigeria's 500 Small Insurance Companies

Most Nigerian insurance companies still process claims manually. The resulting delays, errors, and fraud cost the industry and customers dearly. Design the digital claims platform sized for small insurers.

Closes 10 Sept 2026

The brief

Nigeria has over 500 licensed insurance companies, the majority of which are small operations with under ₦2 billion in gross premium income. Most of them process claims through manual workflows, paper-based documentation, and email chains. This produces settlement times of 60 to 180 days, high administrative costs, and no systematic fraud detection. Cloud-based claims management systems exist — but the available options are priced for large enterprises. Your challenge is to design a cloud-based claims management platform specifically priced and designed for Nigerian insurance companies with gross premium income below ₦2 billion. It must reduce average claim settlement time to under 14 days, integrate with the NIA's fraud intelligence feeds, and be deployable by a company with no dedicated IT staff. Pricing must be below ₦500,000 per year including implementation. Submit a product design document (max 12 pages) including: the claims workflow architecture, document handling and OCR approach, fraud flag integration, how a small insurer with no IT staff deploys and manages the system, the pricing model, and a plan to onboard 50 insurers within 24 months. Judging criteria: 35% claims workflow design for settlement speed, 30% usability for non-technical insurers, 20% pricing model at ₦500,000 per year, 15% insurer onboarding plan.
