Give Afrobeats Artists Control Over Their Own Rights

Nigeria's music industry generates hundreds of millions of dollars globally, but most artists have little visibility into how their royalties are calculated or collected. Fix that.

Closes 10 Sept 2026

The brief

Afrobeats is one of Nigeria's most valuable cultural exports, yet most artists — including those with international chart success — lack the tools to track streams, verify royalties, or identify when their work is being used without permission. The infrastructure for rights management was built for a Western music industry context and largely excludes Nigerian independents. Your challenge is to design a rights management and royalty tracking platform specifically for independent Nigerian music artists. It must be usable by an artist with no legal background, support both digital streaming and physical performance, and integrate with at least one major DSP (Spotify, Apple Music, or Boomplay). Submit a product specification (max 12 pages) including: the rights registration process, how streaming data would be aggregated, dispute resolution for unpaid royalties, and a monetisation model that does not charge artists upfront fees they cannot afford. Judging criteria: 35% usability for non-specialist artists, 30% technical feasibility of DSP integration, 20% rights enforcement design, 15% business model sustainability.
