Design a Distribution Model for African Short Films That Actually Pays Filmmakers
African short films win at festivals and disappear. Design the distribution and revenue model that changes that.
Closes 6 Sept 2026
The brief
African short filmmakers invest months of work, travel to international festivals, win awards, and then watch their film vanish. Streaming platforms pay poorly for short content. Local theatrical distribution does not exist at scale. Filmmakers make the next film on faith.
Your challenge is to design a distribution model for African short films — fictional, documentary, or animated — that generates meaningful revenue for filmmakers and reaches an African audience. The model does not need to be exclusively digital.
Submit: the distribution model, how filmmakers submit and earn, how audiences find and pay for content, economics for a filmmaker with a 20-minute film, and why this model works where others have failed.
Judging criteria: 35% filmmaker earnings potential, 30% audience reach, 25% model sustainability, 10% originality.
