Terms and Conditions

1. Eligibility

The Teen Innovators Challenge (TIC) is open to individuals and teams aged 13–22 residing in Nigeria at the time of application. All team members must meet the age requirement.

Employees, contractors, and immediate family members of ATTP (Africa's Teen Tribe Project) and its partners are not eligible to compete.

ATTP reserves the right to verify eligibility at any stage of the competition. Applications that misrepresent age, credentials, or team composition will be disqualified.

2. Intellectual property

Applicants retain full ownership of their projects, ideas, and any intellectual property submitted as part of the TIC application.

By submitting an application, applicants grant ATTP a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reference, describe, and showcase the project, including project name, sector, and summary, for programme communications, reports, social media, and public documentation.

This licence does not transfer ownership of the project, its code, design assets, or business model to ATTP. ATTP will not commercialise or sub-licence applicant projects without express written permission.

3. Media rights and consent

By participating in TIC, including attending Build Day, applicants consent to being photographed and filmed by ATTP for programme documentation and promotional purposes.

Images and video may appear on ATTP's website, social media channels, sponsorship reports, and partner communications. Applicants will not receive payment for such use.

Applicants under 18 must provide parent or guardian consent, which is collected on the application form. If consent is withdrawn after submission, applicants should contact ATTP directly.

4. Data usage and NDPA compliance

ATTP collects personal data through this application in accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and the regulations issued by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

Data collected, including name, email, phone, school, age, and project information, is used solely for TIC selection, finalist management, programme communications, and post-programme impact tracking.

ATTP will not sell or share applicant data with third parties for commercial purposes. Partner organisations involved in judging will see anonymised application data unless applicants are shortlisted, at which point the full application may be shared with the judging panel.

Applicants may request deletion of their data at any time by emailing ATTP. Data is retained for up to three years for programme evaluation and alumni tracking purposes.

5. Competition process

Applications go through two rounds. In Round 1, a panel of reviewers screens all original applications and identifies the top 20, who are shortlisted into the programme. In Round 2, those 20 attend orientation, are matched with mentors, and submit a developed final version of their project by 31 October. A panel of independent judges then scores those final submissions. Scores and deliberations are confidential at both stages.

ATTP's decisions at each stage are final, except where a formal appeal is submitted in accordance with Section 7 below.

The ten highest-scoring finalists are invited to build live at Build Day on 21 November. Final rankings are determined by the judging panel on the day; judge scores from Round 2 inform the selection of the top 10, but the final prize positions are decided live.

6. Prizes and disbursement

Prize amounts are as stated: ₦200,000 (1st place), ₦100,000 (2nd place), ₦50,000 (3rd place).

Prizes are disbursed by bank transfer within 30 days of Build Day. Winners must provide valid Nigerian bank account details (account name, account number, bank). Failure to provide accurate details within 14 days of being requested may result in forfeiture.

ATTP reserves the right to withhold or recover prizes where a winner is found to have misrepresented their project or breached these terms at any point before or after the award.

Winners agree to submit an impact report within 6 months and 12 months of the award, detailing project progress. This does not affect prize payment but forms part of ATTP's programme evaluation.

7. Appeals

Rejected applicants may appeal the decision within 14 days of receiving their rejection notification. Appeals must be submitted via the TIC appeals form and must state clearly why the applicant believes the decision should be reconsidered.

Appeals are reviewed by a member of the ATTP team not involved in the original decision. The outcome of an appeal is final.

Appeals based solely on disappointment, without new information or a specific grounds for reconsideration, will not be upheld.

8. Disqualification

ATTP reserves the right to disqualify an application or finalist at any stage for:

• Submission of plagiarised, copied, or substantially misrepresented work
• Misrepresentation of age, team composition, or credentials
• Undisclosed conflicts of interest with members of the judging panel
• Misconduct or disruptive behaviour at the Build Day
• Attempting to influence judges outside the official process
• Any conduct that brings the competition into disrepute

A disqualification notice will be sent by email. Disqualified applicants may not appeal using the standard appeals process; they may write directly to ATTP with exceptional circumstances only.

9. Changes and cancellation

ATTP reserves the right to amend competition dates, prize amounts, or format. Any material changes will be communicated to all applicants by email with reasonable notice.

In exceptional circumstances, ATTP may cancel TIC without liability to applicants.
