Purple Cow

Seth Godin's argument that in a world full of ordinary products, being remarkable is the only marketing strategy that works.

Why this is on the list

Short, sharp, and still accurate twenty years after it was written. The argument: attention is scarce, advertising is ignored, and ordinary products are invisible. The only way to get noticed is to build something genuinely worth noticing. For young builders working on African problems, this is relevant because Africa does not need more generic solutions — it needs things built specifically for its context, which by definition will be remarkable to the people they serve.
