Build the Social Commerce Layer for Nigerian Small Retailers
Over 80% of Nigerian retail happens informally. WhatsApp and Instagram are already being used for sales. Design the infrastructure layer that makes this reliable and scalable.
Closes 10 Sept 2026
The brief
Millions of Nigerian small business owners are already selling through WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok — but they are doing it with no order management, no payment tracking, no inventory system, and no protection against fraud. The informal social commerce economy is enormous but fragile.
Your challenge is to design a lightweight social commerce platform layer that plugs into the channels small retailers already use. It must not require them to move their customers to a new app, must support payment via bank transfer and USSD as well as card, and must be learnable in under 20 minutes without any formal training.
Submit a product design document (max 12 pages) including: the core feature set, how it integrates with WhatsApp or Instagram without violating platform terms of service, a go-to-market strategy targeting one category of trader (clothing, food, electronics, or cosmetics), and a revenue model.
Judging criteria: 40% product usability for low-tech sellers, 30% integration design, 20% revenue model, 10% go-to-market specificity.
