Build a Brand That Competes on Zero Naira

Millions of Nigerian small businesses have great products and no brand presence. Branding agencies are too expensive. Design the self-service brand-building toolkit that changes this.

Closes 10 Sept 2026

The brief

A Nigerian small business owner who makes excellent chin-chin, repairs electronics, or runs a successful catering operation has a business but no brand. She cannot afford a designer or a marketing agency. She posts inconsistently on Instagram with photos taken in poor light. She has no logo, no consistent name style, no brand story that would make a buyer trust her over a competitor. The tools to build a credible brand on a tiny budget exist — they are not assembled in a form that works for her. Your challenge is to design a self-service brand-building toolkit for Nigerian SME owners with a marketing budget below ₦50,000 per month. It must guide them through creating a consistent brand identity, writing a story that builds trust, producing professional-quality visual content with a basic smartphone, and posting consistently across WhatsApp and Instagram. The toolkit must be completable in one weekend and deliverable entirely via WhatsApp. Submit a toolkit design document (max 12 pages) including: the brand identity creation process, story framework, smartphone photography guide for Nigerian market contexts, content calendar template, how the toolkit is delivered via WhatsApp at scale, and a plan to help 100,000 SMEs build their brand in 12 months. Judging criteria: 35% practical quality of the brand-building tools, 30% smartphone content production design, 20% WhatsApp delivery design, 15% scale plan.
