Turn Nigeria's Neglected Heritage Sites Into Living Cultural Destinations
Nigeria has over 65 listed heritage sites. Most receive under 1,000 visitors a year. Design an experience that changes that.
Closes 10 Sept 2026
The brief
From the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove to the Sukur Cultural Landscape, Nigeria's UNESCO and national heritage sites contain extraordinary history. Yet poor signage, absent guides, no digital presence, and decaying facilities mean most Nigerians have never visited one. The cultural and economic potential of these sites is almost entirely unrealised.
Your challenge is to choose one of Nigeria's heritage sites and design a visitor experience that would attract at least 10,000 domestic visitors per year. You may combine physical redesign, digital interpretation, community guide training, and social media strategy — but your solution must be implementable within a ₦5 million budget.
Submit a destination experience design document (max 15 pages or equivalent visual format) including: site analysis, visitor journey design, community involvement model, a 12-month implementation plan, and how success would be measured.
Judging criteria: 35% quality of visitor experience design, 30% community benefit and sustainability, 20% budget realism, 15% originality.
