Take Design Education Beyond Lagos and Abuja
Nigeria produces world-class designers — almost all of them trained in two cities. Design an accessible, quality design education programme for young people in Kano, Enugu, Calabar, and beyond.
Closes 10 Sept 2026
The brief
Graphic design, UX, product design, and fashion design skills are in high demand globally. Yet formal design education in Nigeria is concentrated almost entirely in Lagos and Abuja, with a handful of programmes in Port Harcourt. Young people in Kano, Enugu, Calabar, or Owerri who want to build design careers face geographic exclusion on top of cost barriers.
Your challenge is to design a practical design education programme that could be delivered in six cities outside Lagos and Abuja simultaneously, primarily through hands-on studio learning rather than passive video content. It must be affordable at under ₦5,000 a month, culminate in a portfolio that global employers and clients would take seriously, and run without requiring imported software licences.
Submit a programme design document (max 12 pages) including: curriculum overview, studio delivery model, hardware and software specifications using open-source or free tools, instructor recruitment and training plan, portfolio outcomes, and a financial model for each city hub.
Judging criteria: 35% quality of curriculum and portfolio outcomes, 30% accessibility and cost model, 20% delivery feasibility in target cities, 15% instructor training plan.
