Protect Nigerian MSMEs from Cybercrime

Cybercrime costs Nigerian businesses an estimated ₦2 trillion annually. MSMEs are the most vulnerable and have the least protection. Design the affordable cybersecurity solution built for them.

Closes 10 Sept 2026

The brief

Nigerian businesses suffered over 35 million cybersecurity incidents in 2024. The majority targeted small and medium businesses — not because they have the most valuable assets, but because they have almost no defences. Most MSMEs use basic mobile devices and shared computers, have no IT staff, rely on free email accounts for business transactions, and have never heard of multi-factor authentication. The cybersecurity products available are enterprise-grade and enterprise-priced. Your challenge is to design a cybersecurity package for Nigerian MSMEs with under 50 employees that protects against the top five threats they face (phishing, ransomware, payment fraud, account takeover, and data theft), is manageable by a business owner with no IT knowledge, costs under ₦30,000 per year, and can be delivered and supported remotely. Submit a product design document (max 10 pages) including: the five threats covered and the protection mechanism for each, the non-technical management interface, remote support model, pricing and business model, distribution channel for reaching MSMEs, and a plan to protect 50,000 businesses within 12 months. Judging criteria: 35% protection design for each of the five threats, 30% usability for non-technical owners, 20% pricing and business model, 15% distribution plan.
