Modernise Nigeria's Community Welfare Associations for the Digital Age

Town unions, community development associations, and welfare groups manage billions of naira collectively. Almost all of them do so with no digital tools, no financial transparency, and no accountability. Design the platform that changes this.

Closes 10 Sept 2026

The brief

Nigeria's community associations — Igbo town unions, Yoruba hometown associations, northern community welfare groups — are some of the country's most effective social organisations. They build roads, fund scholarships, support bereaved families, and mediate disputes. They collectively manage enormous sums. And they do all of this without any digital infrastructure, often with minimal financial transparency, and with governance challenges that create fraud and conflict. Your challenge is to design a digital platform for Nigerian community associations that provides transparent financial management, democratic governance tools (online voting, project proposals), member communication, and social welfare fund management (burial support, emergency loans). It must work for community members in Nigeria and abroad simultaneously. Submit a platform design document (max 12 pages) including: the financial management architecture, governance and voting design, welfare fund management, diaspora member integration, mobile money and bank transfer integration, data privacy model, and a plan to onboard 500 community associations in two years. Judging criteria: 35% financial transparency and governance design, 30% welfare fund management, 20% diaspora integration, 15% association onboarding plan.
