Before you build anything, you need to understand the environment you are building in. The market rewards rare and valuable things. That is the most fundamental fact of commerce. Not innovative. Not useful. Not impressive. Rare and valuable. Something can be useful but not rare, and the market will not pay much for it. Something can be rare but not valuable, and again the market will not care. Your first job as a builder is to understand what the people you are trying to reach desire — and to find the intersection of what they strongly want and what is genuinely scarce. That intersection is where real businesses are built. Everything else is activity.
