Innovation in Nonprofits
1 of 4
Most nonprofit work is stuck in patterns set decades ago — the same programme models, the same fundraising events, the same reporting formats. Innovation is not a luxury for the social sector; it is the survival strategy. The communities nonprofits serve are changing faster than the organisations serving them. A teenager in Lagos in 2026 has different needs, different access to information, and different expectations than the same teenager in 2010. The organisations that stay relevant are the ones that treat their beneficiaries like users — constantly observing how their needs are evolving, testing new approaches, scrapping what no longer works. Innovation in nonprofits does not require large budgets. It requires the willingness to admit that what worked before might not be what is needed now.
