How to Fund Disruption
1 of 4
Funding a disruptive idea requires a different pitch than funding an incremental one. An incremental pitch shows evidence that your approach works. A disruptive pitch has to do something harder: it has to make the funder believe in a future that does not yet exist. To do that, you need three things. First, a specific problem that the funder can verify — something provable, not hypothetical. Second, an unfair advantage — why are you the person who can solve this, and why now? Third, a prototype or early proof — even a small, rough version of the idea that demonstrates it is real and not just a slide deck. The fastest way to lose a bold pitch is to ask for money for an idea that only exists in your head. Build something first. Then ask.
