What Mental Health Actually Is

Mental health is not about being happy all the time. It is about having a mind that can respond to the things that happen to you — that can feel the difficult things without being destroyed by them, function under pressure, and recover when things go wrong. In Nigeria, the conversation around mental health is often reduced to something extreme that happens to other people. But mental health is a spectrum, and everyone sits on it. The question is not whether you have mental health. You do. The question is what state it is in right now, and whether you are paying attention to it.
