Speed Is a Competitive Strategy

1 of 4

One of the consistent features of Musk's companies is the pace. SpaceX achieved in ten years what NASA's development cycles would have required three decades for. Tesla moved from concept to production vehicle in a time frame that the incumbent automotive industry considered implausible. The speed is not incidental — it is strategic. Moving faster than the industry creates a compounding advantage: you learn from each iteration before competitors have finished their first. You accumulate knowledge that incumbents are still preparing to acquire. You arrive at the answer before the conventional wisdom has decided whether the question is worth asking. For a young builder in Africa: speed in execution is one of the most accessible advantages available. Capital and infrastructure are constrained. Speed of learning and iteration is not.
