Default to Clarity
1 of 4
Once you understand the defaults — emotion, ego, social, inertia — the goal is not to operate without defaults. That is impossible. The brain runs on defaults because they are efficient. The goal is to replace the defaults that work against you with ones that work for you. Defaulting to clarity means: before acting, pausing to ask what is actually true about this situation. It means having a small set of questions you return to automatically when a decision matters. Questions like: what information am I missing? What would I advise a friend? What am I afraid to look at here? What would the best version of me do? When these questions become your automatic reaction to high-stakes moments, you have replaced destructive defaults with constructive ones.
