Ephesians 2:10 says: we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Good deeds are not extras or bonus points. They are part of the specific purpose for which you were made. They are also, Hughes notes, increasingly counter-cultural — in a world that rewards visibility and productivity, quiet, consistent good works stand out precisely because so few people do them.
