Stories That Raise Support
1 of 4
Impact reports with statistics do not raise money. Stories that make a donor feel something do. The formula is not complicated. Find one person whose life changed because of your work. Tell that story specifically — their name, their situation before, what your organisation did, what changed. Then attach the numbers. In that order: story first, data second. The story creates emotional investment. The data provides intellectual justification. Both are necessary. Neither works as well without the other. The nonprofits that raise the most are not always doing the most — they are the ones with the strongest systems for collecting and telling these stories consistently, across every channel they use to communicate.
