Build Your CV Before You Need It

1 of 6

Most people start thinking about their CV when they need a job. By then, it is too late to build it well. Your CV is a record of what you have done with your time — and time you have already spent cannot be rebuilt retroactively. The best CV strategy is not a writing strategy at all. It is a doing strategy: take on work that teaches you something real, build things even when no one asks you to, volunteer for the hard projects, and pursue internships and programmes long before graduation. The CV writing comes last. The work comes first, consistently, over years. The students who walk out of university with strong CVs did not write them in the final month — they built them across every semester.
