Your Plan Is Your North Star

The first and most important discipline in both health and wealth is also the most consistently skipped: having a plan. Not a vague intention to be healthier or to save more — a specific, written plan that turns your long-term goals into near-term choices. Without a plan, every daily decision is disconnected from its cumulative consequence. You skip the workout because today does not seem to matter. You spend the money because it is a small amount. But health and financial outcomes are built almost entirely from the aggregation of small decisions made without an immediate feedback signal. The plan is the feedback signal. It tells you what today's choice costs, in terms of the outcome you said you were working toward. Without it, you are making decisions in the dark.
